Online identities are easy to spoof -- anyone can go onto a web forum and sign up as someone they are not, famous celebrity or otherwise.
To counter this, Semaphor takes advantage of the concept of verification. Users who know each other can verify one another’s identity to help prevent fraud. For example, if Will Ferrell was attempting to sign up to your Organization or channel the first place to check would be whether they have anyone else who verifies their identity.
If they are verified by reliable sources, you can better assume this user is who they say they are. If they are not verified by anyone when you would expect them to be it is possible they are a fraud.
You can verify a user you know to better establish their online identity by clicking the user avatar image wherever you see it. Doing so will bring up the user’s public profile. Clicking the dropdown near the username will show the option to ‘Verify in-person’. Select this to be prompted to give your verification that this user is who they claim to be.
